Calcium carbonate slurry rheological characterization
Keywords:
calcium carbonate mud, rheological behavior, apparent viscosity.Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to establish the correlation between the rheological properties and the solids content in the calcium carbonate slurry based on the (Bingham) ideal plastic rheological patterns in order to generate a model for estimating the apparent viscosity of the slurry. The investigation results revealed that the behavior of the calcium carbonate mud slurry is similar to that of the ideal plastic adjustable to the Bingham model for a solids content between 30 and 50%. Based on these valuesˏ the rheological parameters of initial shear strength and plastic viscosity and their relation with the apparent viscosity behavior are determined. The equations correlating the shear strength and the plastic apparent viscosity with the solids percent allow defining the apparent viscosity model for changes in solids content.Downloads
