La mina Merceditas se encuentra en una zona de gran actividad tectónica postmineral, que aflora en el límite sur del bloque ofiolítico Moa-Baracoa, en el contacto de las ultramafitas con los gabros. El campo mineral está dividido en cinco bloques estructurales limitados por los sistemas de fallas que atraviesan los cuerpos minerales dispuestos espacialmente en forma de lentes. Las rocas presentes en el área son peridotitas, peridotitas serpentinizadas, dunitas, gabros y cromitas. Mediante un estudio integral que incluyó trabajos experimentales de campo, in situ, y de laboratorio se pudo establecer, a partir de ls propiedades físico-mecánicas, la evaluación del agrietamiento y el comportamiento mecánico-estructural del macizo, los modelos geomecáncios más comunes.Downloads
