Reconstrucción palinspástica y paleográfica del Cretácico inferior de Cuba oriental y territorios vecinos

Abstract

En el ejemplo de Cuba Oriental se aplican las técnicas de reconstrucción palinspástica, y sobre esta base se elabora un modelo paleogeográfico para el Cretácico Inferior. Dicho modelo reconoce los siguientes elementos paleogeográficos, a partir de la plataforma de las Bahamas: el talud continental de la plataforma, un canal-mar marginal, un archipiélago de islas volcánicas, una cuenca frontal de arco de islas, y una fosa oceánica abisal. Este cuadro es comparable con la periferia occidental del Océano Pacífico que pueden tomarse como patrón de referencia. Utilizando este modelo se determina el grado de aloctonía de las distintas secuencias rocosas que componen el substrato plegado de Cuba.
