Estratigrafía del banco carbonatado Cretácico Remedios del área Cuba Norte-Las Bahamas
Abstract
En el litoral septentrional de la isla de Cuba están presentes una serie de afloramientos carbonáticos de plataforma del Cretácico que han recibido el nombre de Remedios. Comprende la formación Palenque del Aptiano-Cenomaniano, la formación Purio del Huroniano al Maestrichtiano. Esta última yace transgresivamente sobre las anteriores, con un hiato cuya duración no está precisada, pues en Purio no se han encontrado fósiles índices del Huroniano-Santoniano. El banco carbonatado Remedios constituyó un promontorio de aguas someras como una barrera larga y estrecha a lo largo de la margen meridional de la plataforma Bahamas, separada esta última por un canal de aguas profundas. El banco se originó en el Aptiano y se destruyó completamente al final del Maestrichtiano. En el Turoniano y el Campaniano estuvo eventualmente emergido.Downloads
