El límite Cretácico-Terciario en Cuba
Abstract
En este artículo se dan a conocer los resultados de las investigaciones bioestratigráficas del límite Cretácico Paleógeno en Cuba Oriental, donde fueron estudiadas detalladamente cuatro secciones estratigráficas, localizando un límite continuo entre las formaciones Gran Tierra y Mícara. Los datos obtenidos sugieren que existe una transición gradual de taxa de foraminíferos planctónicos en vez de extinciones bruscas de géneros, o redeposiciones. Las variaciones relacionadas con el tamaño de los foraminíferos y el predominio o escasez de morfotipos son notables, lo que se relaciona con la selectividad. Se define por primera vez en Cuba para la base del Dáñense la bíozona Globigerina eugubina como biozona de intervalo, siendo el taxón nominal Globigerina fringa. Como biozona de rango se define para el Maestrichtiense superior la biozona Racemiguembelina fructicosa.Downloads
