Erosion-associated soil loss estimation in the north sector of Moa

Abstract

The objective of this work is to evaluate the susceptibility of soils under the influence of erosion processes in the north sector of Moa for future risk evaluations which can prevent or mitigate the damages resulted from these phenomena. An erosion inventory map using the Cuban method of erosion associated soil loss with the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S). The influence of conditioning factors such as litho-structures, tectonic, soil slopes is determined by the statistical method of conditional analysis. The result includes a characterization of erosion factors and typologies developed in the area. The work includes the analysis of the factors that impact the erosion rate, emphasizing on the geomorphological characteristics of the lateritic cortex. A susceptibility map for the soil of the north sector of Moa was generated.
