Cracking in carbon steel welded joints on leach discharge tank

Abstract

The objective was to analyze the microstructural behavior and the AISI 1025 steel welded with type E 6010 and E 7018 electrodes with 3,2 and 4 mm diameters; respectively by applying the SMAW welding procedure. Samples were prepared and welded in order to establish the procedure. This allowed characterizing the microstructural behavior of the welded area, the area of thermal influence and the bead interphase for depositing both electrodes. The micro- hardness results for the E 6010 and E 7018 electrodes were 35,2 HV and 31,5 HV; respectively. This is associated with multi-passes; which makes it an annealing thermal treatment. The micro- hardness decreases while the beads are being deposited.
