Abstract

Children’s capability to making choices has been recently the object of numerous investigations. The bibliography reports that children suffering any psychiatric disease or development disorder show commitment in making decisions. These children prefer an immediate reward and ignore future consequences in compared to control groups. The objective of this investigation is to analyze how making choices under risk functions in children between the ages of six and nine by means of the computer based task “Hungry Donkey Task” in order to obtain information on the children’s choice pattern. A total of 137 children aged six to nine attending either public or private institutions were involved in this investigation. The results show that there are no differences by age neither in the number of advantageous choices made in Hungry Donkey Task nor in the number of choices. However, the results of this investigation are not consistent with those described on the aspect of genre in research materials.
