Cutting speed: influence on the lifetime and surface roughness obtained in turning gray cast iron with K20 insert

Abstract

The effects for different values of cutting speed were studied with constant advance and depth cut, in the evolution of flank wear with respect to time and in the surface finish that is obtained when using K20 inserts of national production during dry cast machining of iron CЧ 18, using the end-of-lifetime criteria set out in ISO 3685. Models relating lifetime and surface roughness to the cutting parameters were determined by factorial variance analysis and linear regression. To fulfill this purpose scientific, experimental, measurement and statistical observation methods were used among others.
