Abstract

Reinforced concrete buildings are becoming more frequent in cases where it is necessary to increase the resistant capacity of a structure, either due to pathological causes due to failures or defects or due to a change in use that may occur along The lifespan of the building. In this sense, the reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures, applying mesh fabrics of mineral fibers embedded in cementitious matrix, or FRCM system for its acronym in English, has become in recent years a reality as a reinforcement technique, mainly by the excellent properties it possesses and the great compatibility they manifest with reinforced concrete. The following work establishes the methodological bases for the design of structural reinforcement with FRCM systems in reinforced concrete elements, with the aim of increasing its resistant capacity, according to the American code ACI-549.4R of 2013. Design procedures were developed of flexural reinforcement, shear and axial compression load and finally the fundamental points to be taken into account are established in order to obtain an adequate reinforcement design.
