Abstract

The microstructural behavior and hardness of the radial friction welding process of the dissimilar junction between an AISI 316 steel plate and an AISI 1045 steel bar was established. A 50 mm 50x50x12 AISI 316 plate and a 20 mm bar were cut diameter of AISI 1045, rotating the plate on a lathe C 11 MT, with speed of 1400 r / min, pressure of 75 MPa and an axial force of 23550 N; the metallurgical union between them was achieved in a time of fourteen seconds. The thermomechanically affected area and the thermally affected area were analyzed, where the structure is composed of the martensite-ferrite-perlite, microconstituent phases of the AISI 1045 and the austenite-ferrite of the AISI 316L. The perlite occupied 65.42% of the area on the surface, while the austenite was 67.95%. There is an increase in hardness from 180 HV and 217 HV, respectively up to 306 HV in the ZTMA, generated by friction.
