Abstract

The present investigation was conducted to the tunnel Buenaventura Sabanilla from the Este-Oeste transfer pipeline in the province of Holguín. The objective of this investigation was to establish the parameters for the design of contour blasting during the execution of tunnel works based on the stressdeformation field occurring in the rock mass when using detonating cordon charges of 40g/m. The calculation was carried out based on the distribution of the annular air space between the explosive and the charge chamber. The physical-mechanical properties of the rocks were analyzed and a study was conducted to identify the presence of cracking at the front of the tunnel in order to model the stress field resulted from the excavations by using a computer program prepared by the author. The modeling results allowed determining crushing, cracking and descaling radius of a monolithic and cracked mass and therefore calculating the low stress line in both cases as well as defining the parameters for contour blasting which were compared with current designs. The new proposal was found to be more rational based on the satisfactory results obtained using fewer resources.
