Abstract

The correct design and selection of rake conveyors allow the operation of these units at maximum capacity. This is achieved by properly selecting and calculating their operating parameters. Major failures occurring on the worm conveyor that hauls reduced hot ore in the nickel plant Ernesto Che Guevara include: misalignment, breakage of metal components and excessive tightness. As a result, pperations management of the company has decided to replace the Jacoby unit with a chain rake conveyor; thus requiring selecting and designing them. This work was carried out to design and select drive chains for the rake conveyor that will be installed in the Ernesto Che Guevara kiln plant to replace the Jacoby conveyor that is used for hauling reduced hot lateritic ore.
