Desarrollo de seamounts de serpentinita y evolución cretácica-terciaria de la microplaca Cuba oriental-La Española

Al final del Cretácico se dieron condiciones favorables para la formación de seamounts de serpentinitas en la microplaca Cuba Oriental-La Española. La dinámica del Caribe noroccldental durante el Cretácico Superior y el Terciario Inferior se caracterizó por un proceso de subducción entre la placa norteamericana y la microplaca Cuba Oriental-La Española y la apertura y expansión de la cuenca de Yucatán que dio lugar a la formación del aulacógeno Cauto-Nipe y al desarrollo de la riftogénesis que condujo a la formación de la fosa de Bartlett. Las secuencias serpentinoclásticas turbidítlcas y algunas ollstostrómicas compuestas por material elástico oliolítico, así como la presencia de melanges ofiolíticos que incluyen metamorfitas de diversos orígenes, representativos de un complejo de subducción, son reinterpretadas como originadas por el desarrollo de seamounts serpentiníticos de diverso tipo similares a los reportados en el forearc del arco de islas de lzu Bonn que podrían estar localizados en la cuenca de forearc del arco de islas Sierra Maestra.Downloads
