Posición de Cuba oriental en la geología del Caribe
Abstract
El territorio comprendido entre la denominada falla Cauto y la falla Oriente reviste singular importancia para la geología del Caribe, por lo que varios geólogos y geofísicos han supuesto que este es un bloque cortical incorporado al resto de Cuba durante la era Cenozoica. En el trabajo se realiza el estudio de los principales rasgos geológicos existentes a ambos lados de la fallas Cauto y Oriente, concluyendo que los argumentos planteados al respecto no son acertados, por cuanto no existen evidencias geológicas de que las estructuras geológicas cubanas se originaron a partir del choque de la corteza oceánica del Pacífico con la plataforma Bahamas.Downloads
