Selection of a rock digging method for the aggregate quarry Los Caliches

Abstract

A procedure was applied for the theoretical identification of a rock digging method. This procedure is based on the structural analysis of the rocky massif, the identification of the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and the geo-mechanical domains the rocky massif is made up. Based on this information it is possible to select the digging method from the Karpuz chart. The procedure was applied to the quarry Los Caliches located in the municipality of Gibara. Two domains were obtained and the blasting-based digging method was chosen for both.
