Abstract

The production structure of the Catoca Mining Society was characterized as well as its geological and techno’-mining characteristics. The environmental impact caused by open pit mining in the kimberlitic ore body was identified as well as the overall action items to mitigate the negative environmental effects. During the identification, empirical and theoretical methods of the scientific investigation were applied to properly meet the scheduled objectives. A methodology was followed through in which the techniques, the procedures and the methods of research were summarized. This allowed understanding, evaluating and determining the environmental impact of the mining project of the Catoca mining society. The mining activities carried out in the Catoca mining society have a significant environmental effect on the vegetation, fauna, soils, surface and underground water streams, atmosphere, the economy and the landscape.
