Abstract

It addressed ways to improve literacy teaching in children with intellectual disabilities through the enhancement of attention, motivation and learning environments from school. The methods used were participant observation, logs in logs, field diary, application of diagnostic tools, evolution sheets, planning, joint work for review and analysis of records and evaluation of work done during the school year. The results were concreted in actions to improve the work environment in the support classroom, interactive didactic material, visual and auditory materials, as well as affective communication. These educational intervention activities led to greater student confidence and confidence in their performance, as well as motivation and interest in the regular and supportive classroom, which facilitates the acquisition and development of literacy. It is concluded that the processes of motivation and attention in the classroom are related to the organization of work spaces and affective communication between teacher and student.
