Stress effects on the reduced ore conveyor tube-bridle joint welds
Keywords:

The objective of this work was to calculate and simulate the stress in order to determine if it is the cause of failures in the tube-bridle joint welds on the straight sections of the laterite ore conveyor at a metallurgical plant. The simulation was conducted through the finite element method. The metallographic analysis on the welded joint indicated the presence of ferrite-perlite and incomplete Widmanstaetten structures. This is due to the difference between the carbon content of the bridle and that of the tube. The results evidence that the stress is not a cause of failure: according to the Von Misses criterion, the joint is resistant to the load conditions as the maximum stresses resulted from the bead welds are distributed all along the conveyor without exceeding the extreme values.Downloads
