Evidencias a favor de que la goethita es la principal portadora de níquel en los horizontes lateríticos de las cortezas ferroniquelíferas

Las cortezas de intemperismo lateríticas del nordeste de Cuba constituyen fuentes de obtención de Ni. El vínculo de este metal con las fases minerales de hierro (goethita específicamente) en las menas oxidadas de las cortezas ferroniquelíferas, ha sido revelado por diversas investigaciones que se apoyan en análisis químicos y mineralógicos. En este artículo se conjugan, para perfiles de distinto grado de madurez, aspectos químicos, mineralógicos y físicos al nivel de perfil, de horizontes y de clase granulométrica. Los resultados mostraron una tendencia natural de concentración de las distintas fases minerales hacia determinada clase granulométrica. En el yacimiento Moa, tanto en perfiles maduros como inmaduros, la goethita se concentra en la clase granulométrica menor de 0,045 mm, la cual representa alrededor del 50 % en peso de los horizontes ocrosos para ambos tipos de perfil, y contiene como promedio 1,4 % de Ni.Downloads
