Abstract

This investigation presents a procedure the most rational method of rock excavations for quarries of construction materials in Cuba. The methods for breaking the ground were studied as well as the parameters that are taken into consideration for the selection. The investigation results provided a tree of excavability of rocky massif. The inputs were point load index and the block size. This procedure facilitates the selection of the most appropriate method, which in turn guarantees mining the quarries satisfactory in compliance with economic and sustainable criteria.
