Temperature distribution in lateritic ore piles exposed to natural drying

n the Nickel & Cobalt Process Plant “Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara” located in Moa the lateritic ore is deposited in triangular stockpiles to dry using the natural drying technique. However, the methods currently used to calculate drying parameters are inaccurate. During this investigation, a mathematical model was developed to calculate and simulate temperature distribution in the lateritic ore during natural drying based on a mathematical and physical analysis of natural drying. The simulation results indicated that laterites are poor conductors of heat and therefore heat transfer via thermal conduction does not have a significant effect, occurring in no more than 9.7 cm of the stockpile surface areaDownloads
