Abstract

The neuropsychological characteristics in executive functions of a sample of contact athletes were described taking into account the presence of a history of concussion in order to identify those characteristics in which a domain or alteration with clinical significance was presented. Some contact sports athletes were interviewed and evaluated by applying the frontal assessment battery executive functioning. It was found that when comparing the results according to the history of concussion, those who had suffered one or more previous concussions, obtained significantly lower scores in tasks regulated by the medial orbital cortex, and visuospatial working memory. It is concluded that contact sports bring benefits at the cognitive level; however, concussions can negatively affect the execution for tests related to the medial orbital area.
